Souters - "Train to work in law firms, charities or a
variety of other sectors"
Paralegal
Paralegals carry out much of the legal work done by solicitors or barristers, although they are not fully-qualified.
As a paralegal, you could work for law firms, supporting solicitors (usually specialising in one area of law such as probate or family law) the public or ‘not-for-profit’ sector Your exact duties would vary depending on the specific sector, but would often involve: preparing legal documents research interviewing clients and witnesses attending court handling a caseload of clients giving legal information to clients typing, filing and other general clerical tasks. With more experience, you might eventually carry out most of the work that a solicitor does.
Souters' Distance courses, whilst also good for Legal Secretaries, can
be equally useful to people looking for work in the Paralegal area. We
recommend Litigation, Conveyancing, Business Law and Family Law;
which you choose will depend on your own inclination but Litigation is a
must.
